CALLING ALL EMERGING DESIGNERS!

YDO is excited to announce that we are expanding and looking for fresh new designers! We are seeking designers with raw talent, innovating designs, and a passion for style. We are looking for anyone that produces anything creative – clothing, shoes, accessories, makeup, artwork, furniture –anything beautiful and creative. YDO is an online store and fashion concept that allows designers access to in-house public relations, fashion networks and events, and an outlet to sell their products. Until June 30, we are offering new designers to join us for free, waiving the standard joining fee.

Have you ever seen someone’s eyes that are so beautiful that you could almost fall into them?

No, we’re not talking about Chuck Bass. 

There is no time like Winter to bring out bright, bold shades of eyeshadow and as Adele so eloquently puts it, set fire to the rain. Bright eyes were a hit at MBFW and we are beginning to see it more and more on the street and in lookbooks. 

It can be a little tricky, we know. So here’s a tutorial to give you a hand…

1. Select your colours.
Start with a neutral base - browns look good on everyone.

2. Happy colouring!
If you have three shades of the colour family, apply the lightest on the brow bone, the darkest on the crease, and the medium shade on the eyelid. Use your fingertip to gently blend the colours together to make sure there are no stark lines on the crease. Make sure you use an applicator brush to apply the eyeshadow and use makeup remover if you make any mistakes. 

Sadly you can’t find fun eyeshadow colours everywhere these days. Eyeshadow colours come and go with trends and seasons, and your favourite colour that you bought last year and lasted so well is likely to have been already discontinued in favour of new colours. With the South Australia Fashions on the Field recently gone it can only mean one thing - Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival is approaching!

It’s that time of year when we don our best frocks, most ridiculous fascinator, and brace Brisbane’s Winter (for lack of better word) for a month of fun and frivolity. 

Are you stuck for ideas? Here’s some quick tips to get you started.

The Fascinator. 

Though your headwear doesn’t have to be as extravagant as those at the Kentucky Derby, this season is all about being bold and bright. Princess Beatrice-esque fascinators were everywhere at SA Fashions on the Field and no doubt will be just as popular in Brisbane. Here’s some of our YDO top picks from Featherhead:

The Shoes

While most women don towering heels at the races in efforts to look a few centimeters taller, YDO recommends that the key to shoes at the races is comfort. The last thing you want is to be continually sinking into the grass in too-thin stilettos and then having to hobble home.

Clutch

More importantly than the appearance of the clutch is its contents. Race day essentials include: lipstick, lipgloss, phone, comb, credit cards, keys, panadol, bandaids, tissues, hollywood tape, a form guide, your name and address on a piece of paper, and a hip flask if you’re that way inclined. Now that makes for one rather large clutch bag.

This season is all about feminine beauty and elegance. So, keep it simple stupid and let the fascinator and dress express yourself.

YDO was launched two years ago and since has showcased myriad talented designers, held many successful networking events, and become a fairy godmother for emerging fashion designers. Some current designers featured on the YDO site include Lisa Taranto, Little Sparrow, Neon Heartache, Soot, Louis and George, LRW Makeup, and Veinwear.

2012 is set to be a big year for YDO, who plan to expand the list of designers and really focus on creative, raw talent of young Australian fashion designers.

Next time you wake up with hair like a wild cat woman and need a quick fix, don’t fret. At the moment we are loving two infallible and effortless hairstyles that compliment anything you wear.

1. Top Knots
There is one simple rule to top knots – there are none. Simply grab your tresses on the top of your head, twist them this way and that to the point that your hair sits comfortably and doesn’t annoy you. And they are so multipurpose; you can dress it up or dress it down; it’s perfect for work, gym, cleaning, cocktails…there is a top knot for every occasion!

2. Hair bowties

Hair bowties are popping up everywhere at the moment. But don’t be disheartened if you don’t have enough hair for these bad boys – you can buy clip-in hair bowties that match your hair shade rather easily. Otherwise, grab a comb and a can of hairspray and an Internet connection. There are countless online tutorials for these, and it may take a little practice to get the perfect shape, but once you master the art it will look as cute as a glittery unicorn wearing a tutu eating a lamington.
